Job summary

Scarsdale Public Schools in Scarsdale, NY is seeking an experienced Head Custodial Worker for Scarsdale Middle School to oversee cleaning, maintenance and minor repairs. Under the direction of the Assistant Director and Director of Facilities, the Head Custodian will supervise Custodial Workers and cleaners, maintain heating and ventilating systems, and ensure safety and compliance.

This role requires scheduling, reporting, and collaboration with teaching staff; Mon-Fri 6:00am to 2:30pm.

Qualifications

• Experience in supervising custodial staff and coordinating cleaning operations.
• Knowledge of safety regulations for public buildings and schools.
• Ability to prepare reports and maintain basic records.

Responsibilities

• Assigns tasks to Custodial Workers, Cleaners and Substitute Cleaners and supervises their work through verbal and written commands, and computer based programs.
• Supervises the maintenance and operation of heating and ventilating systems.
• Makes periodic inspections of maintenance activities to ensure best practices.
• Inspects work performed by private contractors.
• Requisitions, receives, stores, and distributes cleaning supplies.
• Prepares work schedules and keeps time records.
• Keeps records and reports of supplies used and activities carried on.
• Participates in interviews and recommends hiring of subordinate personnel.
• Trains Custodial Workers and Cleaners in cleaning and maintenance tasks.
• Maintains liaison between teaching staff and Custodial Workers.
• May monitor water system meters and related equipment.

Head Custodial Worker

Scarsdale Public Schools is seeking qualified candidates for an anticipated Head Custodial Worker vacancy at Scarsdale Middle School.

Under the direction of the Assistant Director and Director of Facilities, the Head Custodian is responsible for managing the building's cleaning, maintenance, and minor repair operations. The position also includes supervising Custodial Workers, Cleaners, and Substitute Cleaners, along with performing other related duties as assigned. Additionally, the Head Custodian will demonstrate:

• thorough knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment;
• good knowledge of the operation and maintenance of heating and ventilating equipment;
• working knowledge of the tools, terminology, and practices of one or more skilled trades;
• the ability to effectively use computer applications such as spreadsheets, calendar, e-mail, and applications such as BMS, School Dude (work order/facilities scheduling/inventory system);
• thorough knowledge of safety regulations, procedures and security in the workplace and public buildings;
• thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of effective supervision;
• the ability to prepare reports;
• the ability to get along well with others, demonstrating good judgment, dependability and initiative;
