Job summary

Taher, Inc. is seeking a Head Cook to join our team in a school food service setting. The position focuses on cooking from scratch, leading a small kitchen staff, and ensuring meals meet high standards within set time frames.

The role requires strong communication, problem-solving, and cost-management skills, with emphasis on HACCP and USDA compliance. Regular hours include no nights or weekends, with opportunities for growth within the organization.

Qualifications

• Two years preferred in a school food service setting.
• Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
• Able to lead a small team and follow supervision.
• Strong communication with employees and clients.
• Must pass criminal background check.

Responsibilities

• Cooks and prepares a variety of food through standardized recipes.
• Ensures meals meet quality standards and are prepared within time limits.
• Monitors and directs food service staff and substitutes in prep and serving.
• Prepares and cooks all menu items for regular and à la carte lines.
• Leads a small staff and provides clear direction and training.
• Checks equipment and monitors temperatures of refrigeration units.
• Manages ordering, receiving, storing and inventory of perishables per procedures.
• Reinforces USDA regulations and HACCP standards.
• Conducts cost control analysis and monitors product and menu costs.
• Establishes monthly food and labor cost goals.
• Promotes nutrition education in school and community.
• Uses time management to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Performs other duties as requested by leadership.
