Supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Head Cook supervises the Assistant Cook and Nutrition Assistants, overseeing direct service in the central kitchen, including preparation and production of the daily food program in accordance with applicable standards and regulations.

Responsibilities include:

• Supervising kitchen staff effectively.
• Planning and preparing meals based on the menu, using standardized recipes and documenting substitutions as needed.
• Transporting meals while following safety and sanitation procedures.
• Maintaining records in compliance with regulatory agencies.
• Ordering supplies and managing inventory using FIFO.
• Receiving and verifying vendor deliveries.
• Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen facilities and equipment.
• Monitoring temperature logs and ensuring proper storage conditions.
• Attending staff meetings and professional development.
• Communicating promptly with supervisors about issues.
• Providing feedback on menus and programs.
• Building positive relationships with children, families, and staff.
• Driving to grocery stores for shopping as required.

Qualifications include:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• At least five years of cooking experience, preferably in high-volume settings.
• Three years of supervisory experience.
• Experience working with children and diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Valid California Driver’s License.
• Physical ability to perform job duties, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Current certificates for Pediatric First Aid and CPR, or willingness to complete training within 90 days.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish preferred.
