Job summary

EmergencyMD seeks a Head Strength & Conditioning Coach to lead a year-round program for student-athletes, focusing on strength, conditioning and injury prevention.

Requires a Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred), NSCA certification, CPR/AED, and at least two years of relevant experience. Reports to the Vice President of Athletics and collaborates with coaches and medical staff.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree required / Master's Degree.
  • NSCA certification or equivalent.
  • CPR/AED First Aid Certification required.
  • Strong leadership and relationship-building abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and coach student-athletes during workouts, teaching safe lifting techniques.
  • Oversee fitness equipment and facilities in the Student Center.
  • Coordinate with Athletic Training to plan around injuries and RTS protocols.
  • Coordinate weight room schedules with head coaches for all varsity teams.
  • Maintain safe facility hours and perform basic equipment maintenance.
  • Manage and develop Volunteer/Intern Assistant Coaches.
  • Adhere to NCAA, conference, university, and departmental policies.

Position: Head Strength & Conditioning Coach

Department: Athletics

Reports to: Vice President of Athletics

Work Schedule/FLSA: 12 months/year; exempt

Primary Function

The Head Strength & Conditioning Coach provides a year‑round, comprehensive strength and conditioning program design and implementation for student‑athletes including strength training, injury prevention and general conditioning.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience
  • Bachelor's Degree required / Master's Degree
  • Certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) or an equivalent national strength and conditioning governing body
  • CPR/AED First Aid Certification required
  • A proven record of achieving exceptional

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Monitoring and coaching student‑athletes during workouts to maintain safe, positive, and effective. Instruct and demonstrate safe lifting techniques during sessions.
  2. Administrative responsibilities include but are not limited to: Oversight of fitness equipment/facilities in the Student Center.
  3. Communicate with the Athletic Training Staff to stay up to date on injury limitations or the individual needs of a student‑athlete as identified by the Athletic Training Staff. Assistance with following Return to Play.
  4. Coordinate with head coaches to establish weight room schedules for all varsity athletic teams. Assist in team building, culture communication, upholding student‑athlete code of conduct standards.
  5. Establish and maintain a safe and functional weight Determine facility hours during in‑session and semester break periods. Perform minor repairs to fitness equipment as needed. Coordinate with third party equipment providers for equipment maintenance and repairs. Identify potential improvements to facility and facility operations to improve facility function in the short, mid, and long term.
  6. Management and professional development of Volunteer/Intern Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach.
  7. Exhibiting the highest professional standards and ethical behavior regarding adherence to NCAA, Mountain East Conference, University, and Department of Athletics rules and policies.
