Job Summary
The Strength & Conditioning/Sport Performance Coach for all sports will provide weight room orientation for athletes, provide training and supervision in the weight room, and monitor open gym as needed. Additionally, they will provide training for coaching staff and manage the weight room facility to ensure safety for all. They may provide practice, game, and possibly travel coverage for assigned sport(s).
This is a part‑time, non-exempt position with a projected schedule of up to 19 hours per week.
Location
This position will sit at our St. Francis campus site in downtown Honolulu, within Athletics Administration, but may require travel to other campus and field sites.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in exercise science or related field
- First Aid certification
- CPR/AED certification for the professional rescuer
- Must have Strength and Conditioning (CSCS) Certification or ability to certify within 6 months of hire
- 1‑year experience as a weight or strength coach, or one year of internship experience at the collegiate level.

- Experience as strength & conditioning coach for athletics teams.
Other Qualifications
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship and relocation allowance is not available for this position.
- Report to work obligations to support the department and may require work during HPU’s winter break and other holidays, if necessary.
- Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with the Protection of Minors policy.
- Attend to details to effectively act on policies necessary and appropriate for managing NCAA and PacWest Conference related compliance. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary actions and/or termination of employment.
- Upon hire, candidate must have reliable personal transportation to facilitate travel between all HPU worksites and other locations as required by the position. This includes a valid driver’s license and a personal vehicle that is legally registered and insured.
- This position may also require driving responsibility for an HPU vehicle. Due to driving responsibilities, you must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with HPU’s Vehicle Driving policy.
- Able to work all shifts and extended hours.
- Successful candidate will be able to work in an environment that utilize excellent time and stress management skills.
- Regular, reliable, non-disruptive attendance is essential for this position as is the ability to create and maintain collegial harmonious working relationships with others.
Key Responsibilities / Essential Job Functions
- Weight Room Management & Supervision (65%)
- Review all strength & conditioning workouts for all teams.
- Review weight room policies & procedures on an annual basis and update as needed.
- Review policies & procedures with all teams prior to workouts beginning.
- Review policies & procedures with each coach prior to workouts beginning.
- Supervise weight room open gym times to provide accessibility for all athletes.
- Extended hours in the summer are expected.
- Weight room management and equipment inspection (15%)
- Inspect and arrange equipment as needed for efficiency and safety.
- Notify facilities and or custodial if attention is needed.
- Recommend supplies and equipment as needed.
- Administrative (10%)
- Assist with the management of facility inventory and supplies.
- Assist with the Emergency Action Plan.
- Supervise weight room and manage equipment in a safe manner.
- Performs other related duties as assigned (10%)
- Assist in the overall function of the Athletics Department with duties as assigned by the Athletics Director or Head Athletic Trainer.
- Actively participates as an effective member of team by completing assigned duties, accepting additional assignments or reassignments.
- Assists with seasonal peaks.
