Job summary

Avon Public Schools is seeking a Head Coach/Varsity Coach for the Avon High School Crew team. The role focuses on guiding student-athletes, organizing practices in coordination with the Athletic Coordinator, and ensuring safe, positive experiences during interscholastic competition.

Responsibilities include scheduling contests, managing equipment, enforcing team standards, and maintaining records, per CIAC guidelines. The appointment follows the AEA agreement with Avon Board of Education.

Qualifications

  • Must possess or be eligible for Connecticut Coaching Permit.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification or eligibility to earn.

Responsibilities

  • Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for achievement in the sport involved.
  • Plan and schedule with the Athletic Coordinator a regular program of practice in season (including holiday or vacation periods).
  • Work closely with the Athletic Coordinator in scheduling interscholastic contests.
  • Recommend purchase of equipment, supplies and uniforms as appropriate.
  • Maintain and complete necessary attendance forms, insurance records, accident reports and similar paperwork.
  • Oversee the safety conditions of the facility or area in which the assigned sport is conducted at all times students are present.
  • Establish written rules and regulations in consultation with the athletic coordinator and/or principal, for distribution to all team members and parent/guardians prior to the start of the season. Enforce discipline and sports‑manlike behavior at all times and impose penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
  • Provide for the orderly distribution and collection of all athletic equipment.
  • Evaluate assistant coaches and program and submit written reports to the athletic coordinator at the conclusion of the season.
  • Conform to the rules and regulations as stated in the coaches manual and/or athletic department handbook.
  • Perform such other duties as are consistent with the nature of the position and as may be requested by the athletic coordinator and/or principal.
  • Follow all applicable state laws and CIAC regulations related to concussion and sports injury.

Position Title: Head Coach/Varsity Coach (AHS Athletics)

Job Goal: Acts in accordance with the Athletic Department of Avon High School to provide each participating student-athlete a positive, rewarding, and safe experience as a participant in interscholastic athletics.

Compensation: In accordance with the Agreement between the Avon Board of Education and Avon Educators Association (AEA)

Work Year: Annual appointment. Season as defined by schedule set forth by the AHS Athletic Coordinator in accordance with CIAC season limitations and policies.
