Job summary

Avon High School is seeking an Assistant Crew Coach for the athletic department. The role involves coaching athletes, planning in-season practices, and coordinating with the Athletic Coordinator and Head Coach to schedule contests and manage equipment and safety.

The ideal candidate will hold a Connecticut Coaching Permit or be eligible, have current First Aid/CPR or eligibility, and demonstrate commitment to safe, sportsmanlike participation in interscholastic athletics at Avon High School.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Coaches individual participants in sport-specific skills under guidance of Head Coach.
  • Plans and schedules with the Athletic Coordinator and Head Coach a regular practice program.
  • Works with the athletic staff to schedule interscholastic contests.
  • Recommends purchase of equipment, supplies and uniforms as appropriate.
  • Maintains attendance forms, insurance records, accident reports and similar paperwork.
  • Oversees safety conditions of the facility during activities.
  • Establishes written rules with the Head Coach and enforces discipline and sportsmanship.
  • Distributes and collects athletic equipment orderly.
  • Follows coaches manual and athletic department handbook rules.
  • Performs other duties as requested and follows CIAC concussion/safety regulations.

Position Title: Assistant Coach/Junior Varsity Coach/Freshman or Development Coach (AHS Athletics)

Job Goal: Acts in accordance with the Athletic Department of Avon High School to provide each participating student-athlete a positive, rewarding, and safe experience as a participant in interscholastic athletics.

Qualifications:

  • Possesses or is eligible for a Connecticut Coaching Permit issued through the CT State Department of Education.
  • Current First Aid and CPR or eligibility to earn certification.

Reports to: AHS Athletic Coordinator and AHS Principal

Evaluator: AHS Athletic Coordinator and AHS Principal

Compensation: In accordance with the Agreement between the Avon Board of Education and Avon Educators Association (AEA)

Work Year: Annual appointment. Season as defined by schedule set forth by the AHS Athletic Coordinator in accordance with CIAC season limitation and policies.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for achievement in the sport involved under the guidance and direction of the Head Coach/Varsity Coach..
  • Plans and schedules with the Athletic Coordinator and Head Coach/Varsity Coach and regular program of practice in season (including holiday or vacation periods).
  • Works closely with the Athletic Coordinator and the Head Coach/Varsity Coach in scheduling interscholastic contests.
  • Recommends purchase of equipment, supplies and uniforms as appropriate.
  • Maintains and completes necessary attendance forms, insurance records, accident reports and similar paperwork.
  • Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.
  • In accordance with the Head Coach/Varsity Coach establishes written rules and regulations in consultation with the athletic coordinator and/or principal, for distribution to all team members and parent/guardians prior to the start of the season. Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times and imposes penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
  • Provides for the orderly distribution and collection of all athletic equipment.
  • Conforms to the rules and regulations as stated in the coaches manual and/or athletic department handbook.
  • Perform such other duties as are consistent with the nature of the position and as may be requested by the athletic coordinator and/or principal.
  • Follow all applicable state laws and CIAC regulations related to concussion and sports injury
