Duties And Responsibilities

The Head Coach is expected to exhibit the highest professional standards and ethical behavior in the execution of the duties and responsibilities of the position consistent with the mission and integrity of the institution, conference, and NCAA . The responsibilities of the head coach will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for planning, supervision, and coordination of all aspects of administering and coaching a Division I Men’s Golf program in compliance with NCAA and conference rules and regulations.
  • Coordinates practice planning, match preparation, athletic conditioning; develops a competitive schedule; provides leadership for practice and match strategies.
  • Manages Men’s Golf coaching staff.
  • Directs recruitment and retention of student athletes.
  • Organizes travel arrangements for practice, match and/or events and required documentation for the staff and team members including expense reports.
  • Adheres to NCAA , Loyola University, and conference affiliation rules and regulations and responsible for maintaining a culture of compliance as evidenced by actions of staff members in the program.
  • Works closely with Academic Support and Student Development units, responsible for the overall success, performance, and conduct of the Men’s Golf program in the areas of academics, athletics and student athlete conduct, and the recruitment, growth and development of student athletes.
  • Promotes all aspects of the Men’s Golf program, the Athletics Department, Loyola University of Chicago through marketing and public relations activities; oversees creation and distribution of team/alumni fund raising mailings/events, public relations and other sport-related assignments; participates in community outreach and fund raising activities.
  • Oversees department-wide Golf fund-raising tournament.
  • Assists with Golf marketing, promotions, and game-day activities.
  • Assists with the management of the Loyola Athletics summer camp program.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Minimum Education And/or Work Experience

Bachelor’s degree and three to five years of NCAA coaching experience in designated sport required. Thorough understanding of and compliance with NCAA rules and regulations and commitment to the mission of Jesuit higher education. NCAA Division I experience desired.

Qualifications

PGA preferred.

  • Knowledge of and adherence to all NCAA and conference rules, regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to sport.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership, communication, organizational, interpersonal, public relations and fundraising skills, and the ability to be aligned with the mission & identify of a Jesuit institution.
  • Demonstrated experience with the role of intercollegiate athletics in a highly competitive academic environment and the ability to recruit and retain academically qualified high caliber student-athletes with a strong commitment to the academic achievement of student-athletes
  • Strong teaching and coaching skills with proven ability to lead and manage staff; motivate student-athletes to maximize athletics performance and develop them scholastically and individually consistent with the higher education values of the university.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills are required with the proven ability to communicate constructively with student-athletes and demonstrated commitment to student-athlete welfare.
  • Ability to build and maintain interpersonal positive relationships with student-athletes, staff, and alumni.
  • Efficient in budgetary matters; experience in managing and participating in fundraising activities and summer camps.
