Your role:

Global Relay is seeking a Chef for its corporate office in Manhattan as part of its offering to an eventual full-time staff of 250 employees at this location. Along with breakfast and lunch service for staff, the candidate will be responsible for executive client event breakfast and lunch meetings as well as on-site event catering.

Candidates for this position must be professional and courteous, with experience dealing with the public. This is an open kitchen within a professional work environment. The successful applicant will be proficient in all aspects of the operation of a professional kitchen assuming responsibility and ownership of all key functions. In this capacity, you will be responsible for satisfying a variety of needs for Global Relay’s lounge and related areas.

Your responsibilities:

  • Planning, preparation, execution and service of a daily breakfast and lunch menu for approximately 200+ office staff. We are currently at 30 staff.
  • Working closely with the Office Manager and Global Executive Chef
  • Planning and preparing working breakfasts and lunches for executives and VIP guests
  • Planning and execution of corporate catering events for internal staff and guests
  • Demonstrate and implement proper cooking techniques to achieve high-quality finished products
  • Provide appropriate presentation and service of finished product to staff
  • Proven experience in hiring, training and supervision of junior staff
  • Create and maintain food safety plans
  • Implement and supervise proper food safety and sanitation techniques per NYC DOH
  • Ensure proper cooling, storage and hot holding of food items
  • Ensure general cleanliness and upkeep of the lounge, kitchen and equipment on a daily and ongoing basis
  • Ensure inventory is effectively managed and tracked
  • Create order lists, guides and par sheets
  • Source and network with industry and potential vendors for food items
  • Procure required food and supplies at wholesalers and produce markets
  • Ensure the lounge is properly stocked of all standard daily supplies
  • Prepare and manage food costing and analysis
  • Prepare expense reports via automated accounting system (SAP Concur)
  • Ensure equipment is properly maintained per manufacturer
  • Schedule the servicing of equipment
  • Personalized a la carte menu creation for executive clients and special events

About you:

  • 2-year Culinary Arts degree or equivalent 5 years work experience
  • NYC DOG Food Safety Certification
  • Experience as a Sous Chef with proven managerial duties in leadership, ordering, food costing, accounting and relationships with vendors
  • Experience in a high-volume environment
  • VIP catering experience is an asset

Compensation:

Global Relay advertises the pay range for this role in compliance with applicable pay transparency laws. Individual pay rates are determined by evaluating factors such as expertise, skills, education, and professional background.
