Orthopedic Associates of Lancaster LTD has contracts with 13 local high schools, 4 colleges, 1 professional team, and PA Classics. Elizabethtown College is a member of the NCAA Division III and the Landmark Conference and offers 24 NCAA varsity sports.
Summary/Objective
The Head Athletic Trainer will manage and mentor a team of athletic trainers. The candidate shall demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and collaborative skills, working closely with other athletic trainers, strength and conditioning staff, athletic administrators, and sport coaches to support the health, safety, and performance of Elizabethtown College student-athletes and advance the overall mission of both organizations. The candidate will also work closely with Orthopedic Associates of Lancaster’s physicians and other healthcare professionals when advanced medical care is needed.
Responsibilities
- Promotes the mission and values of both organizations.
- Provide services directed toward achieving increased functional independence, decreasing functional limitations, and prevention of injuries to the individual patient/athlete.
- Carry out the practice of prevention, recognition, evaluation, management, disposition, treatment, and/or rehabilitation of injuries, upon the advanced advice and consent of a physician.
- Perform evaluations of injuries, follow standing orders for treatment, management of the injury or refer the athlete to a physician.
- Provide education in injury prevention, conditioning, and rehabilitation.
- Document evaluative findings, treatments, patient assessments, and treatment plans.
- Maintain a clean and organized treatment area and workspace.
- Provide emergency care within the Athletic Training scope of practice.
- Lead, supervise, and coordinate schedules of athletic trainers, student trainers, and staff.
- Oversee the procurement and maintenance of athletic training equipment and supplies within the department’s budget.
- Update and maintain the Sports Medicine Emergency Action Plan annually.
- Schedule and provide daily coverage for practices and competitions, including some travel as determined by the Director of Athletics.
- Work effectively in various settings.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and coaches regarding injuries and return-to-play decisions.
- Adhere to College policies and participate in professional development.
- Coordinate athletic training coverage with the head athletic trainer and attend relevant meetings.
- Provide additional services such as education seminars for coaches, athletes, and staff as needed.
- Cover all home events and out-of-state/international travel when requested, with expenses covered by the college.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Certification by the Board of Certification (BOC).
- Bachelor's Degree in athletic training from a CAATE accredited program.
- Licensure by the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine.
- Current BLS for healthcare providers.
- All required state clearances.
- Minimum of four (4) years of athletic training experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in athletic training (preferred).
- Strong communication skills.
- Familiarity with NCAA rules.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Five (5) or more years of experience (preferred).
