Job summary

Sunrise-Telecom in Chandler, AZ is seeking an HDD Directional Drill Operator/ Crew Leader Utility Locator to join our field team. This full-time, on-site role involves locating underground utilities, guiding drill heads, and coordinating with the drill operator to maintain depth and alignment.

You will read design prints, maintain bore logs, and ensure safety and quality standards while working outdoors in all weather.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• A valid Class A license is required.
• Must have 2 years directional drill experience as a drill operator or locator.
• Able to use a utility locator to find existing underground utilities; Falcon F series preferred.
• Knowledge of utility locating laws and standards; ability to work in high-risk areas.
• Must be able to lift/move heavy objects and operate in all weather.

Responsibilities

• Read locate paint or flags and interpret job layouts including service lines and meters.
• Maintain company assets and ensure safe, ongoing operation of equipment.
• Read and interpret design prints; manage bore logs and tools for drilling operations.
• Diagnose/relay equipment issues to a repair technician; maintain bore logs.
• Move and lift heavy items (≥100 pounds) to operate equipment.
• Complete daily reports and communicate job status to customers and staff.
