Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Alabama Pharmacy Technician License and National Certification required upon hire.
  • 1 year of experience in providing assistance to a pharmacist in a pharmacy setting.
  • 4 years of experience in providing assistance to a pharmacist in a pharmacy setting.

Responsibilities

  • Assists a registered pharmacist in dispensing prescriptions to patients, including receiving refill and new prescription requests and entering information into the computer database.
  • Provides customer service by responding to routine inquiries concerning prescriptions and prescription insurance coverage.
  • Maintains pharmacy inventory, including receiving medications, verifying shipments, stocking, and checking for outdated medication.
  • Maintains and stocks automated dispensing machines.
  • Performs payment processing, cashier functions, and basic financial reporting, including daily transactions.
  • May troubleshoot pharmacy software and related technology.
  • Assists in developing or modifying processes based on unit objectives and feedback from staff.
  • More experienced Technicians may advise supervisors and train others on new processes.

Education

Level I: HS diploma or equivalent
Level II: HS diploma or equivalent + 1 year experience in pharmacy
Level III: HS diploma or equivalent + 4 years experience in pharmacy
Alabama Pharmacy Technician License

The Harrison School of Pharmacy at Auburn University is excited to begin the search for a Pharmacy Technician! Under supervision of a Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician provides skilled and technical assistance to the pharmacist in pharmacies operated by the Harrison School of Pharmacy to include assisting with dispensing prescriptions, providing routine customer service to patients and assisting in maintaining inventory.

Responsibilities
  • Assists a registered pharmacist in dispensing prescriptions topatients to include receiving prescription refill requests and newprescription requests, verifying that information is accurate, andentering prescription information into computer database accuratelyand efficiently.
  • Provides customer service by responding to routine inquiries concerning prescriptions, prescription insurance coverage, and pharmacy prescription records. Forwards complex issues to supervisor or more senior level technician.
  • Assists in maintaining pharmacy inventory in roles to includereceiving medications, verifying medication shipments, approvinginvoices, stocking, and checking for outdated medication currentlyin inventory.
  • Maintains and stocks automated dispensing machines
  • Performs payment processing, cashier functions, and basic financial reporting including daily transactions and opening and closing cash register. May also participate in financial reporting.
  • May troubleshoot pharmacy software, reporting, and relatedtechnology.
  • Assists in developing or modifying processes based on unitobjectives and feedback from employees and management.
  • More experienced Technicians will provide advice and consultation to supervisors and managers regarding internalpolicies, procedures, and practices.
  • May train others in new process implementation.
Qualifications
Level I
  • High school diploma or equivalent
Level II
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year of experience in providing assistance to a pharmacist orin a pharmacy setting.
Level III
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 4 years of experience in providing assistance to a pharmacistor in a pharmacy setting.
License and Certifications
  • Alabama Pharmacy Technician License and National Pharmacy Technician Certification required upon hire
