Altom Transport is seeking a Dispatcher to coordinate the safe, reliable transportation of hazmat liquid bulk trailers. You will manage daily dispatch, support drivers, and keep shipments moving safely and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires understanding tanker operations, DOT/FMCSA rules, and proficient use of a transportation management system and spreadsheets. Strong planning, communication, and safety awareness are essential.

Qualifications

• Previous experience dispatching hazmat liquid bulk tanker shipments.
• Understanding of chemical or petroleum transportation, tank cleaning requirements, and tanker equipment suitability.
• Knowledge of DOT/FMCSA requirements, driver hours of service, and ELDs.
• Experience using transportation management systems, dispatch software, spreadsheets, and email.
• Strong organization, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple shipments and changing priorities.
• Clear, professional communication with drivers, customers, and internal teams.
• Sound judgment and a commitment to safety, service, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Dispatch drivers and liquid bulk tankers for chemical, petroleum, and other hazardous materials shipments.
• Plan loads around driver availability, hours of service, equipment readiness, and customer pickup and delivery appointments.
• Match shipments with appropriately qualified drivers and approved tanker equipment, confirming product and equipment requirements with operations and safety personnel.
• Coordinate tank washes, cleaning documentation, prior cargo information, and trailer readiness between loads.
• Communicate load instructions, appointment details, delivery requirements, and schedule changes to drivers and customers.
• Monitor shipment progress and resolve delays, breakdowns, missed appointments, and last-minute changes.
• Maintain accurate information in the transportation management system, including load details, shipment status, delivery documents, and accessorial charges.
• Improve fleet utilization and reduce empty miles while maintaining safe, practical dispatch schedules.
• Escalate shipping document discrepancies, product compatibility concerns, incidents, and unsafe conditions promptly.
