Job summary

Trilogy MedWaste, Inc. is seeking a Hazardous Waste Director to oversee the safe and compliant management of hazardous waste operations nationwide. You will lead regulatory compliance with EPA, RCRA, DOT, and OSHA standards and drive waste program improvements.

The role reports to the Chief Growth Officer, is exempt, and offers an annual salary range of $90k–$130k. Expect cross-functional collaboration with customers and internal teams, and occasional travel to sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Occupational Safety, or related field.
• 3+ years of experience in hazardous waste management, environmental compliance, or related operations.
• Working knowledge of RCRA, EPA, DOT, and OSHA regulations; waste characterization and manifesting.
• Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills with leadership ability; travel to sites as needed.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day hazardous waste operations including identification, characterization, labeling, packaging, storage, and shipment.
• Ensure compliance with EPA, RCRA, DOT, OSHA requirements across regulations.
• Prepare and maintain waste profiles, manifests, LDR notifications and shipping docs.
• Manage TSDFs, transporters, and vendors; perform approvals and performance reviews.
• Develop and maintain hazardous waste management plans and SOPs; implement contingency plans.
• Lead internal audits, inspections, and waste area assessments; address gaps.
• Train employees on hazardous waste handling and emergency response requirements.
• Support regulatory reporting and recordkeeping; be primary contact during inspections.
• Partner with operations, transportation, sales, and customer service to ensure timely service.

This role ensures full compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, leads waste program improvements, and serves as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, customers, and internal teams on hazardous waste matters.

Position Summary

The Hazardous Waste Director is responsible for overseeing the safe, compliant, and cost-effective management of hazardous waste operations, including collection, characterization, transportation, recycling, and disposal. This role ensures full compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, leads waste program improvements, and serves as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, customers, and internal teams on hazardous waste matters.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day hazardous waste operations, including waste identification, characterization, profiling, labeling, packaging, storage, and shipment.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including EPA, RCRA, DOT, and OSHA requirements.
• Prepare, review, and maintain waste profiles, manifests, LDR notifications, and other required shipping and compliance documentation.
• Manage relationships with treatment, storage, and disposal facilities (TSDFs), transporters, and third-party vendors, including approvals and performance reviews.
• Develop, implement, and maintain hazardous waste management plans, standard operating procedures, and contingency plans.
• Conduct internal audits, inspections, and waste area assessments; identify and correct compliance gaps.
• Lead employee training on hazardous waste handling, RCRA, DOT hazmat, and emergency response requirements.
• Support regulatory reporting, recordkeeping, and waste minimization documentation; serve as primary contact during regulatory inspections and agency correspondence.
• Partner with operations, transportation, sales, and customer service teams to ensure safe and timely service delivery.
• Identify opportunities for waste minimization, recycling, and cost reduction; investigate incidents, spills, and near misses and ensure proper response, reporting, and corrective actions.

Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Occupational Safety, or a related field preferred.
• 3+ years of experience in hazardous waste management, environmental compliance, or related environmental services operations.
• Working knowledge of RCRA, EPA, DOT, and OSHA regulations; experience with waste characterization, profiling, and manifesting.
• Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills; effective communication and leadership, with the ability to train and direct staff.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and waste tracking or compliance management systems.
• Problem-solving and analytical thinking; valid driver's license and ability to travel to customer and operational sites as needed.

Preferred

• RCRA and DOT hazmat certifications; 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
• Experience managing TSDF, transporter, or vendor relationships.
• Experience supporting manufacturing, petrochemical, energy, healthcare, laboratory, or industrial sectors.
• Familiarity with state-specific hazardous waste programs and e-Manifest.

• On-time and accurate manifesting and reporting.

Working Conditions

• Combination of office, field, and customer-site environments.
• Occasional travel to customer facilities, industrial sites, and manufacturing
• Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when visiting operational or waste handling facilities.
