Job summary

The Prince George’s County Health Department seeks an Environmental Health Specialist I/II to perform inspectional and investigative work under supervision within the Food Protection Services Unit. This entry-level professional role focuses on ensuring compliance with public health laws and safety standards in food facilities and related settings.

Responsibilities include conducting inspections, collecting samples, reviewing reports, and communicating findings to facility operators.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Health, Environmental, Physical, Biological or Engineering Sciences.
• One year of professional level experience in environmental health investigatory/enforcement work.
• Certification as a registered Environmental Health Specialist or Certificate of Eligibility.
• A valid Maryland State driver\'s license is required upon appointment.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, investigate, report on the environmental public health impact of the retail manufacture, preparation, handling, distribution and sale of food and drink.
• Perform follow-up inspections to determine compliance with applicable State and local regulations.
• Respond to citizen complaints and resolve health code violations.
• Conduct change of ownership inspections and remodel inspections, using appropriate regulations and investigative skills.
• Prepare and maintain reports and records of health inspections.
