Responsibilities include providing guidance on hazard classification for onsite transfers and shipments, preparing shipping papers, and verifying regulatory compliance across federal, state, and local standards, including DGR, 49 CFR, IMDG, IATA and EPA requirements.

Qualifications

• HS (or equivalent) plus 2–3 years' hazmat packing/shipping experience.
• Deep knowledge of HazMat packaging and shipping practices and requirements.
• Strong familiarity with federal, state, and local HazMat standards (e.g., 49 CFR, IMDG, IATA).
• Ability to certify compliance for domestic and internal packaging/shipping regs.
• Ability to guide others and communicate regulatory requirements clearly.

Responsibilities

• Interpreting HazMat regulations to determine proper classification and compliance for packaging and shipping.
• Classifying materials for onsite transfers and offsite shipments of materials and waste.
• Maintaining certifications for authorizing hazardous materials shipments by all modes.
• Writing and reviewing hazmat shipping procedures to ensure site and regulatory compliance.
• Assisting with special instructions for non-routine material movements.
• Developing packaging and transport procedures; performing calculations and ensuring legal compliance.
• Providing guidance to less-experienced HM specialists and managers.
• Maintaining knowledge of regulations such as DGR 1.5, 49 CFR, IMDG, IATA, DOT, EPA, DOE, DOD, NRC, RCRA, HMT 370.
• Ensuring packaging and shipment of hazardous materials comply with applicable regulations.
• Evaluating packaging and transport activities for compliance and acceptability.
• Providing leadership to other specialists and customers needing HMT services.
• Preparing and presenting reports on investigations of HM incidents.
• Performing peer verification on HM offerings for shipment.
• Ability to build a DG deck.
