Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Dangerous Goods/Hazmat Specialist to join our team.

The specialist will play a crucial role in managing and ensuring compliance with regulations related to the transportation of hazardous materials. The ideal candidate should have extensive knowledge of dangerous goods regulations, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to coordinate with various stakeholders in the shipping process.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee and manage the transportation of hazardous materials in compliance with national and international regulations.
  • Classify and properly label hazardous materials according to regulatory standards.
  • Prepare and review shipping documents, including hazardous materials manifests, shipping papers, and emergency response information.
  • Ensure that all shipments of dangerous goods adhere to applicable regulations, including packaging, labeling, and documentation requirements.
  • Provide guidance and training to company personnel involved in the handling, shipping, and transportation of hazardous materials.
  • Keep abreast of changes in hazardous materials regulations and update company policies and procedures accordingly.
  • Coordinate with regulatory authorities, carriers, and other stakeholders to resolve compliance-related issues.
  • Conduct internal audits to assess and maintain compliance with dangerous goods regulations.
  • Investigate and report incidents involving hazardous materials, implementing corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Collaborate with transportation providers to ensure safe and secure transport of hazardous materials.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience.
  • Certification as a Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (DGSA) or similar hazardous materials certification.
  • In-depth knowledge of national and international regulations governing the transportation of hazardous materials (e.g., IATA, IMDG, DOT).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex regulatory requirements.
  • Proficient in using relevant software and tools for hazardous materials management.
  • Familiarity with emergency response procedures related to hazardous materials incidents.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with the transportation of dangerous goods by various modes (air, sea, road).
  • Experience with electronic systems for managing hazardous materials documentation.
  • Additional certifications in environmental management or safety.
  • Must obtain and maintain TSA Certification upon hire
