Job summary

Athens Services is hiring a Material Recovery Facility Spotter to maintain safe traffic flow and inspect loads at the unloading area. You will sort waste, identify hazardous materials, and coordinate stoppages to remove hazards while communicating with operators and supervisors.

This role requires physical ability and overtime as needed. Responsibilities include operating equipment, reporting incidents, and ensuring compliance with safety procedures.

Qualifications

• 1-year experience working as a general laborer and/or construction environment.
• High School Diploma / GED.
• Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to construction operations.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors and the public.
• Ability to understand and communicate in writing and verbally and follow instructions.
• Ability to observe proper safety precautions.
• Ability to work overtime as needed.
• Valid C Class Driver License.
• Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.

Responsibilities

• Inspect loads for unauthorized material at the unloading area.
• Enforce MRF safety requirements and procedures.
• Spot trucks unloading in the tipping area and maintain traffic control.
• Direct traffic safely in and out of the unloading area and control unloading of vehicles.
• Inspect and remove hazardous waste from all loads tipped at the MRF.
• Coordinate the stoppage of various activities within the unloading area to pull hazardous waste materials from waste streams.
• Immediately report all emergencies to the proper manager/supervisor.
• Prepare daily log sheets reporting tonnages for correct reporting, billing and invoicing.
• Perform daily litter control and keep the entry road clean.
• Operate equipment to support inspection and sorting processes (skid steer, backhoe, forklift, loaders).
• Sort and bale cardboard and curbside recyclables; load waste tires for shipping; separate metals by type for salvage.
