Job summary

Sentry is seeking an Underwriting Leader to build and own a new book of business in Hawaii. The role focuses on premium growth, profitability, and market share, with leadership responsibility for a small underwriting team on Oahu.

You will engage with independent agents, set strategic plans for market entry, and collaborate with product and pricing teams to introduce new products, while driving performance in a dynamic market.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of underwriting experience in standard commercial lines P&C in Hawaii.
• Familiarity with Hawaii Commercial Lines marketplace and agents.
• Ability to build and manage a profitable book through effective agency management.
• Strong knowledge of state insurance regulations.
• Experience selecting and managing independent commercial lines agents.
• Proven ability to develop a strategic business plan for market entry.
• Experience collaborating with product and pricing teams on new products.

Responsibilities

• Direct the positioning of products to increase premium, profit, and market share.
• Create and execute a business strategy to optimize premium growth and profitability.
• Monitor market trends, competitor products and rate levels.
• Set strategies using marketplace knowledge of independent agencies and local talent.
• Plan and conduct account and agency meetings; recruit new agents.
• Solicit accounts through appointed commercial lines independent agents.
• Analyze risks and determine acceptability of accounts and services needed.
• Lead and develop a small team of underwriters with performance oversight.
