Hawaiian Electric is offering a Summer Internship for a Mechanical Engineering student on Oahu. The program provides hands‑on, project‑based experience with a dedicated mentor and cross‑functional activities.

Interns work on REA related tasks, research and address engineering challenges, and gain exposure to power plants, project management tools, and continuous improvement practices during the summer session.

Qualifications

• : Must be a current, active student at a post‑secondary school (college or community college).
• : Must be in good academic standing
• : Must be attending school Fall 2027
• : Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
• : Must be studying a degree in the area of Mechanical Engineering
• : For Summer 2027, we will accept applications from students whose expected graduation date is December 2027 or later.

Responsibilities

• Intern will complete an REA (P7 1010) request with stakeholders from Operations, Maintenance, Planning, Technical Services, Environmental, and Fuels.
• Intern will investigate the REA, troubleshoot the issue, develop and evaluate options, and propose a solution with cost and schedule estimates.
• End product will be an approved REA response ready for the next project phase.
