Job summary

The City of New York's New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) seeks an Investigative Analyst for the Hate Crimes Unit in the Trial Division. The Analyst will assist in building complex hate crime cases, managing large-scale data collection, organization, and analysis, and supporting ADAs in investigations and trials.

Responsibilities include creating visual aids, testifying in grand jury and court, and maintaining databases, with a focus on data accuracy and cross-agency

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience as a paralegal in criminal justice or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience as a paralegal in criminal justice or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience as a paralegal in criminal justice or equivalent.
  • Master’s degree can be substituted for years of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist ADAs in developing long-term investigations into criminal bias-motivated activity.
  • Create PowerPoints, graphs, diagrams, spreadsheets, charts, maps, video compilations, and other visual aids for investigations, grand jury proceedings, and trial presentations on hate crime cases.
  • Testify in grand jury proceedings, hearings, and trials by describing analytical processes and responding to cross-examination about such processes.
  • Collect and analyze data relevant to hate crime investigations and cases from surveillance video, body-worn camera statements, cell phone data, records, social media, and more.
  • Collaborate with the High Technology Analysis Unit and assist ADAs in interpreting forensic reports and results.
  • Assist ADAs in collecting and processing discovery for complex hate crime cases, including multi-incident pattern hate crimes, and in the witness interview process.
  • Create and maintain in-house databases, filing, and records management systems.
  • Participate in trainings to support professional development.
  • Learn about and adapt to rapid changes in technology, social media, and computer systems.
  • Stay up to date on local, national, and international news regarding bias and hate crimes.
  • Perform related administrative and clerical tasks.
