Job summary

Pacific Seafood in Quilcene is hiring a Hatchery Technician I to support daily hatchery operations, ensure quality, and collaborate across departments to meet goals. You will perform routine duties, follow SOPs, record data with fluorometer, scales and beakers, and may advance improvements.

Preferred experience in shellfish or finfish hatcheries and proficiency with Microsoft Office are welcome. This role requires valid driver's license and ability to work swing shifts, weekends, and holidays;

Responsibilities

  • Follow operational SOPs to ensure optimal husbandry conditions in hatchery: algae, larvae, single seed, and setting.
  • Follow sanitation SOPs to ensure biosecurity and cleanliness.
  • Assist supervisors in all aspects of hatchery operations.
  • Record activities on proper forms and communicate maintenance needs to supervisor.
  • Use proper equipment to collect and record data: Fluorometer, Calculators, Scales, Beakers.

Hatchery Tech I

Department: Quilcene Larvae

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Quilcene

Compensation: $18.50 - $20.00 / hour

Summary:

As a Hatchery Technician I, you will assist in the completion of all hatchery activities to ensure maximum quality and productivity. Having a strong work ethic, you will use your knowledge to complete routine duties, recommend improvements to current operation, assist in all departments, and collaborate with all operations to meet company, division, and location goals.

1. Daily Operations
  • Follow operational SOPs to ensure optimal husbandry conditions are achieved in all areas of the hatchery: , algae, larvae, single seed, and setting.
  • Follow sanitation SOPs to ensure high levels of biosecurity and cleanliness.
  • Assist supervisors in all aspects of hatchery operations.
2. Sanitation, upkeep, and maintenance
  • Identify and communicate any discrepancies or maintenance needs to supervisor.
  • Record activities on proper forms.
  • Assist with maintenance as directed.
3. Hatchery Operation and Equipment
  • Tank Operations: Drain, clean, and fill using proper procedures.
  • Ensure all required supplies are on hand for operations.
  • Using proper equipment to collect and record required data: Fluorometer, Calculators, Scales, Beakers, and Etc.
What you bring to Pacific Seafood

Required:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to work Swing Shifts, Weekends and Holidays.

Preferred:

  • Experience in Shellfish or Finfish Hatchery operations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Experience operating forklifts or other heavy equipment.
Physical Requirements

  • Ability to read a limited number of two and three-syllable words and recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.
  • Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
  • Ability to understand and carry out written or oral instructions.
  • Capable of working and communicating in loud environments, while focusing on tasks.
  • Capable of training in using specialized tools and equipment pertinent to operations.
  • Capable of solving simple math equations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
