Job summary

Department of Game, Fish & Parks in Spearfish is offering a Hatchery Intern position for students. Interns will be involved in hatchery operations such as feeding, inventories and maintenance, stock fish into public waters, and support various research projects.

Applicants must be enrolled as a part-time or full-time student for the upcoming semester, with preference to juniors/seniors and residents or students from SD institutions. Positions may be filled prior to the closing date.

Qualifications

• Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply.
• By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
• Preference may be given to juniors/seniors, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.

Responsibilities

• Assist hatchery operations including feeding, inventories, and rearing unit cleanings.
• Stock fish into public waters and perform building, grounds, and equipment maintenance.
• Contribute to hatchery research projects by collecting data and conducting literature reviews.
• Assist with data analysis and manuscript preparation; may take lead responsibilities on a project.
