Position Overview
The position is responsible for participating in hatchery Embrex processes, including pulling eggs from setters, operating the clear egg remover, pulling rots, ensuring proper vaccination, and placing eggs in the correct hatchers. The scheduled workdays are typically Friday, Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday from 5:00 pm to 3:00 am.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Participate in hatchery quality control, animal welfare, biosecurity, and safety programs.
- Comply with the company’s low transfer crack assessment expectations.
- Ensure correct eggs are pulled and placed into the appropriate hatchers.
- Work in environments exceeding 100°F and tolerate unpleasant odors.
- Lifting, pushing, or pulling 50 lbs. or more repeatedly; standing, walking, bending, squatting, reaching, and other physical activities.
- Set up and clean up of processes, halls, and setters.
- Remain until all duties are completed to verify quality.
- Train to fill in for absent team members.
- Maintain safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness by guiding team members and monitoring safety policies.
- Participate in egg setting, transfer, processing, and delivery, possibly leading questions or concerns to supervisors. Learn to navigate MTECH program.
- Maintain detailed documentation on egg transfer, processing, vaccine tracking, and egg placement.
- Monitor equipment for proper operation, document findings, and report deficiencies.
- Assist in creating and updating training materials for team members.
- Cross-train in other hatchery roles as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including working nights, days, holidays, or weekends.
- Enforce company policies on personnel, quality, safety, and food safety.
- Foster a positive work environment through effective communication and cooperation.
- Remain on premises until the job is completed.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Training provided by automation and incubation vendors, as well as internal trainers and management.
- Effective communication skills to maintain harmony with coworkers.
- Ability to work the outlined schedule.
- No poultry or bird raising.
- English reading, writing, and speaking skills preferred.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
