Job description

Description

The position is responsible for being part of the Embrex hatchery processes. This includes pulling eggs from setters, running them through the clear egg remover, pulling rots, ensuring proper vaccination, and placing eggs into the correct hatchers. The schedule typically includes Friday, Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday from 5:00 pm to 3:00 am.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Participate in the hatchery quality control program, animal welfare, biosecurity, and safety programs.
  2. Comply with the company’s low transfer crack assessment expectations.
  3. Ensure correct eggs are pulled and placed into the appropriate hatchers.
  4. Work in environments exceeding 100°F and withstand unpleasant odors.
  5. Lift or push/pull 50 lbs. repeatedly; stand, walk, bend, squat, push, grasp, kneel, reach, and stretch frequently.
  6. Set up and clean process areas, halls, and setters.
  7. Stay until all hatchery duties are completed to verify quality.
  8. Train and fill in for absent team members.
  9. Maintain a safe, efficient, and economical operation; monitor safety and report issues.
  10. Participate in egg set, transfer, and chick processing; serve as a lead for questions or concerns; learn to navigate the MTECH program.
  11. Maintain detailed documentation of transfer, processing, vaccine tracking, and egg placement.
  12. Monitor machines and equipment; document findings; perform adjustments or report deficiencies.
  13. Assist in creating and updating training materials for team members.
  14. Cross-train in other hatchery positions as needed.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned; may work nights, days, holidays, or weekends.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Receive training from automation and incubation vendors, internal trainers, and management.
  • Communicate effectively to maintain harmony with coworkers.
  • Work the outlined schedule.
  • Must not raise poultry or birds.
  • English reading, writing, and speaking skills preferred.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
