Job summary

Smithfield Foods in Michigan is hiring for a General Plant Labor role. Duties include housekeeping, cleaning floors, assisting in the rendering process, and keeping equipment clean and safe.

You may be asked to work night and weekend shifts and to stand for long periods. We offer industry-leading pay of $22.70 per hour with a $1 per hour shift differential for 2nd/3rd shifts, plus comprehensive health insurance, retirement benefits, and education assistance for eligible team members.

Qualifications

• Prior experience in a rendering facility or production environment preferred.
• Knowledge of mechanical rendering and process equipment.
• Good mechanical aptitude and equipment troubleshooting; skilled in general mechanics and safe operation of equipment.
• Ability to work nights and/or weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

• General Plant Labor and housekeeping tasks as listed in job description.
• Shovel and clean up spills; keep floors clean and organized.
• Maintain and monitor equipment from top to bottom.
• Oversee rendering process from raw material bin to finished goods storage.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

• General Plant Labor

• Housekeeping, hosing down floors, moping, sweeping, emptying trash, picking up trash, etc.

• Shovel and clean up spills in the plant

• Keep barrels emptied of trash and product

• Clean equipment from top to bottom

• Help unstop screw conveyors

• Cut plastic and product off of screw

• Keep Floor drains cleaned out and covers on drains

• Expected to perform other duties as assigned

• Oversees rendering process from raw material bin to finished goods storage

Qualifications

• Prior experience in a rendering facility or production environment preferred

• Good mechanical aptitude and equipment troubleshooting; skilled in general mechanics and safe operation of equipment

• Ability to deal with minor problems involving equipment or various situations

• Ability to work nights and/or weekends as needed

• Ability to stand for entire shift

• Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
