Job summary

Smithfield Foods in Missouri is hiring General Plant Labor to support the rendering facility. The role involves housekeeping, cleaning, and assisting with the rendering process from raw material handling to finished goods storage. Flexibility to work nights and weekends is required.

Employees receive industry-leading wages, $22.70 per hour with a $1/hour shift differential for 2nd/3rd shifts, plus comprehensive health insurance, retirement benefits, and an education benefit for eligible staff.

Qualifications

• Prior experience in a rendering facility or production environment preferred.
• Knowledge of mechanical rendering and process equipment.
• Good mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting of equipment.
• Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.
• Ability to read and write.
• Able to stand for entire shift and climb stairs/silos in a fast-paced environment.

• Housekeeping tasks: cleaning floors, trash, and spills.
• Oversees rendering process from raw material bin to finished goods storage.
• Operate and assist with equipment as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.

Job Description

• General Plant Labor
• Housekeeping, hosing down floors, mopping, sweeping, emptying trash, picking up trash, etc.
• Shovel and clean up spills in the plant
• Keep barrels emptied of trash and product
• Clean equipment from top to bottom
• Help unstop screw conveyors
• Cut plastic and product off of screw
• Keep Floor drains cleaned out and covers on drains
• Expected to perform other duties as assigned
• Oversees rendering process from raw material bin to finished goods storage

Qualifications

• Prior experience in a rendering facility or production environment preferred

• Good mechanical aptitude and equipment troubleshooting; skilled in general mechanics and safe operation of equipment
• Ability to deal with minor problems involving equipment or various situations

• Ability to stand for entire shift
• Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
