Job summary

Weyerhaeuser in Winnfield, LA, seeks an experienced Operations professional for contract administration and harvesting/transportation planning. Based in Winnfield, you will verify harvest plans on-site, negotiate contracts, supervise operations, ensure contractor safety, and optimize product utilization.

You will work with Wood Flow, Marketing, Silviculture, Planning and Geographic Leaders to meet annual plans, with travel to logging sites and strong environmental compliance focus.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in forestry or related field and 5 years of relevant experience; or equivalent degree + experience.
  • Preferred: a degree coupled with 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Commitment to and the ability to exemplify and promote a safe work environment.
  • Fundamental negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in determining and applying conversion factors between alternate scales and weights.
  • Understanding of quality specifications for raw materials across customer markets and how log characteristics impact value.
  • Ability to leverage cost, volume, quality and other supplier data for performance evaluation.
  • Knowledge of safety, environmental, labor, and transportation laws and regulations pertaining to harvesting operations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to thrive in a self-motivated, self-directed work environment with time management.
  • Familiarity with total system concepts and cross-boundary collaboration.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software such as Word and Excel, and other applications.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to safely navigate active harvesting sites on uneven terrain near equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Contract administration and implementation of harvesting and transportation strategies to meet planned volumes and market commitments.
  • On-site verification of harvest plans and negotiation of harvesting contracts.
  • Supervision of harvest operations and contractor safety compliance.
  • Merchandizing and optimizing product utilization; maintain timely system updates.
  • Monitor contract performance; ensure quality in thinning operations.
  • Enforce environmental compliance and address contract noncompliance and performance issues.
  • Manage logging road maintenance activities and support Wood Flow, Marketing, Silviculture, Planning and Geographic Leaders.

This role is situated within the NLAR Region of Weyerhaeuser’s Southern Timberlands division, reporting directly to the Winnfield Wood Flow Manager. Based in Winnfield, LA, the position demands significant travel to and from logging sites, along with extensive fieldwork dedicated to planning and overseeing harvesting operations.

Key Functions

The chosen candidate will play a pivotal role within the Winnfield Team, tasked with contract administration and the implementation of harvesting and transportation strategies to align with planned volumes and market commitments. Responsibilities encompass a spectrum of duties including on-site verification of harvest plans, negotiation of harvesting contracts, supervision of harvest operations, ensuring contractor safety compliance, merchandizing and optimizing product utilization, maintaining timely system updates, monitoring contract performance, ensuring quality in thinning operations, enforcing environmental compliance, addressing contract noncompliance and performance issues, and managing logging road maintenance activities. This role serves as a cornerstone in facilitating the success of Wood Flow, Marketing, Silviculture, Planning, and Geographic Leaders in achieving their annual plans and objectives.

Compensation

This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $69,396 - $123,800 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 5-7% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.
