Job summary

JW Marriott Turnberry Miami Resort & Spa in Aventura, FL seeks an experienced Bartender to mix and serve cocktails, greet guests, and ensure guest satisfaction in a luxury setting.

You will train to knowledge of ingredients and presentation, manage orders via Micros POS, and maintain bar cleanliness while delivering exceptional service in a fast-paced hotel environment.

Qualifications

• Professional demeanor suitable for a luxury environment.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience mixing and serving beverages in a luxury resort or high-volume setting.
• Knowledge of popular cocktails and wines is required.
• Basic computer knowledge of Micros or similar POS systems.
• Must be of minimum legal age to serve alcohol per state law.
• TIPS certificate is required.
• Excellent eye for detail and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Effective at listening, understanding and clarifying guest concerns.

Responsibilities

• Greet each guest promptly after seating in a warm, sincere manner by name.
• Present menu, answer questions, and suggest beverages and foods.
• Know ingredients, preparation, and presentation of all beverages to ensure high quality.
• Prepare drink orders using specified recipes and measuring systems.
• Monitor guest satisfaction and check in on each beverage/food course.
• Stock garnishes, ice, glassware, and supplies; communicate replenishment needs.
• Coordinate with the kitchen regarding menu questions, wait times, and availability.
• Maintain cleanliness and order of bar, unit, and equipment.

Scope of Position

The Bartender is primarily responsible for ensuring guest satisfaction by mixing and serving cocktails, filling server’s orders, and serving food at the guest’s request in a luxury brand inspired hotel environment where attention to detail is key. The Bartender will provide guests with the best efficient, accurate and genuine service possible and exceeding guest expectations by paying attention to guests needs at all times. He/she will also possess a limitless desire to attain the highest levels of quality and cleanliness in all areas of the Food and Beverage Operations and applying hotel standards and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Greet each guest promptly after seating in a sincerely warm, friendly manner using the guest’s name.
• Presents menu, answer questions, make suggestions regarding beverage and food.
• Know the ingredients, preparation, and proper presentation of all beverage items and specials to ensure that every product delivered to the guest adheres to the highest quality possible.
• Prepare drink orders for guests according to specified recipes using measuring systems.
• Remain observant and check in with guests to ensure satisfaction with each beverage and/or food course.
• Prepare fresh garnishes for drinks.
• Stock ice, glassware, and paper supplies.
• Anticipate and communicate replenishment needs.
• Communicate with the kitchen regarding menu questions, the length of wait and product availability.
• Know layout of lounge/hotel and location of all equipment and supplies.
• Secure liquors, beers, wines, coolers, cabinets, and storage areas.
• Setup and maintain cleanliness and condition of bar, bar unit, tables, and other tools.
• Assist as needed to maintain standards of appearance, sanitation and service in all areas of the restaurant.
• Ensure compliance with all state alcohol requirements.
• Key in (pre check) orders on the Micros terminal promptly and accurately.
• Present physical and accurate check to guest and process payment.
• Perform any other reasonable duties as required by management.

Education

High school diploma or GED.

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to communicate in the English language. Second language is a plus.
• Ability to work flexible schedules including holidays and weekends and able to perform multiple tasks.
• Knowledge of basic food handling policies and procedures as well as the techniques and equipment for preparing and presenting food products for consumption, including storage/handling techniques, proper chemical handling, and sanitation standards.

Physical Requirements

• Able to work in a fast paced environment.
• Physically fit in order to move, lift, carry, pull, push and place items up to 50 pounds.
• Also requires standing/walking/reaching and bending throughout shift.
