Job summary

Community Health Action of Staten Island (CHASI) is seeking an Overdose Prevention Educator to join the Harm Reduction Services team. The role focuses on education, naloxone distribution, and compassionate outreach to individuals at elevated risk of overdose and their networks.

The Educator will perform training, testing, referrals, and supportive navigation across site-based and community-based settings, ensuring trauma-informed and participant-centered care.

Responsibilities

• Deliver overdose prevention education and naloxone training to participants, staff, peers, family members, community members, establishments, and partner organizations.
• Schedule and facilitate train-the-trainer sessions to increase internal capacity for naloxone education and distribution.
• Provide education on overdose risk reduction, signs of overdose, naloxone use, fentanyl and xylazine-related risks, and post-overdose support.
• Offer harm reduction counseling on safer substance use and disposal of syringes and supplies.
• Support participants in developing personalized overdose prevention and safety plans.
• Distribute naloxone and harm reduction supplies per program protocols.
• Conduct car-based and community-based service delivery, outreach, and navigation support.
• Engage high-risk individuals in shelters, encampments, and community events.
• Collaborate with program leadership on policies, procedures, and training materials.
• Maintain partnerships to expand naloxone access and education across the community.
• Perform HIV/HCV testing, referrals, and linkage to care and services.
• Utilize peer volunteers to support outreach and distribution.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of drug trends and public health guidance.
• Ensure timely documentation and data submission for reporting and compliance.
• Identify needs and barriers to care to inform program improvements.
• Attend mandatory meetings and trainings as required.
• Operate in alignment with CHASI’s mission, equity commitments, and nonjudgmental care.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
