Job summary

Asian Americans for Equality (AAFE) in New York’s Harlem area is seeking a Porter/Assistant Handyman to keep a mixed-use building clean, safe and functional for tenants. You will perform general maintenance, assist with basic repairs, and support custodial tasks in a high-demand environment.

The role is full-time, on-site with on-call duties to address emergencies and regular upkeep across the building and its facilities. Strong reliability and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience or trade school in general maintenance.
• Experience using hand tools and power tools.
• Bilingual is a plus (English/Spanish or English/Chinese).
• Availability to work in shifts including weekends and evenings.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a clean, safe, and well‑kept mixed‑use building in Harlem daily.
• Handle debris removal, restocking, and respond to cleaning emergencies.
• Assist with non‑technical maintenance tasks across mechanical, electrical, HVAC, painting, carpentry and custodial work.
