Rate Range: $50/HR to $55/HR; The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.
We are seeking a highly motivated Hardware Test Engineer with a strong aerospace engineering background to support the development, execution, and documentation of qualification and certification testing for aerospace engine and component programs. This role is responsible for creating comprehensive test plans, coordinating and executing test activities, collecting and analyzing test data, and generating formal reports that demonstrate compliance with engineering and FAA certification requirements.
The ideal candidate will possess experience in aerospace testing environments, a deep understanding of test methodologies, and exceptional technical writing skills. This position requires both hands-on laboratory capabilities and the ability to independently develop test strategies based on product requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed engineering test plans and procedures for aerospace components and systems.
- Translate product and certification requirements into test objectives, acceptance criteria, and validation methods.
- Design and coordinate qualification, environmental, and certification test activities including:
- Thermal cycling testing
- Vibration testing
- Temperature and sensor validation testing
- Wind tunnel testing involving airfoil and aerodynamic systems
- Execute testing in a laboratory environment and oversee test setup activities.
- Install, configure, and utilize test instrumentation including:
- Thermocouples
- Collect, validate, and analyze test data using Excel, LabVIEW, and other engineering tools.
- Generate detailed technical reports documenting test execution, results, and compliance findings.
- Support FAA certification programs by ensuring testing meets applicable regulatory and qualification requirements.
- Collaborate with engineering teams, project managers, and occasionally customers to develop test approaches and review test plans.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with company and regulatory standards.
- Participate in troubleshooting test setups and resolving laboratory issues.
- Follow laboratory safety procedures and equipment operating guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in aerospace testing, qualification testing, or certification testing environments.
- Experience supporting FAA-regulated aerospace programs and certification efforts.
- Strong understanding of aerospace product development and verification processes.
- Demonstrated experience developing test plans, procedures, and technical reports.
- Hands-on laboratory experience with environmental and mechanical testing equipment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
- Experience utilizing LabVIEW for data collection, analysis, or test automation support.
- Knowledge of instrumentation including thermocouples, strain gauges, oscilloscopes, and data acquisition systems.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to produce extensive technical documentation.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting FADEC (Full Authority Digital Engine Control) systems or engine control product lines.
- Background in aerospace propulsion, engine systems, or flight hardware testing.
- Familiarity with aerospace qualification standards and regulatory requirements.
- Experience interacting with customers during test planning and execution activities.
- Mechanical aptitude with laboratory tools and equipment, including torque wrench usage and fixture assembly.
