Job summary

Formlabs in Somerville, MA is seeking a hands-on Hardware Systems Integration Intern for Summer 2027. You’ll work across mechanical design, scripting, test design, and data analysis to help characterize and improve 3D printer performance.

You will design and run studies, build test setups, debug electro-mechanical systems, and contribute to prototypes with the Mechanical, Electrical, and Embedded Firmware teams. Portfolio required.

Qualifications

• Pursuing engineering studies with hands-on approach.
• Experience with mechanical or electro-mechanical systems.
• Portfolio of engineering work/projects required.

Responsibilities

• Design and run studies to characterize and evaluate the performance of 3D printers.
• Design and build test setups to evaluate the reliability of 3D printer subsystems.
• Debug and diagnose issues with electro‑mechanical systems and work with cross‑functional teams to implement fixes.
• Write Python scripts, queries, and build tools to support reliability and characterization studies.
• Polish time management and communication skills to increase effectiveness as an engineer.
• Assist in building and commissioning prototypes.
