Job summary

Sagemcom in Dallas is seeking a hands-on Lab Technician to support the development and validation of residential gateway hardware (Wi‑Fi, broadband, 5G/LTE). You will collaborate with hardware and software engineers to ensure robust product testing and efficient lab workflows.

The role focuses on prototyping, assembly, and debugging in a fast-paced hardware lab. It requires practical electronics skills, strong documentation, and meticulous attention to safety and quality.

Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Relevant hands‑on experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical and electronic prototyping of development boards and complete systems.
  • Assemble, modify, and rework hardware prototypes including cabling and soldering; fixtures and test setups.
  • Support lab operations, hardware inventory, and test setups for validation campaigns.
  • Document findings, test results, and corrective actions clearly.

Position Overview

Job title: Hardware Lab Support Technician M/F

About the Role

Sagemcom is looking for a hands-on and detail-oriented Lab Technician to support the development and validation of residential gateways (Wi‑Fi, broadband, 5G/LTE) within our Dallas hardware team.

In this role, you will work closely with hardware, system, and validation engineers, contributing directly to product quality, rapid troubleshooting, and lab efficiency. You will be involved from early prototypes through system-level validation, playing a key role in ensuring robust and reliable products for major telecom operators.

This is an on-site, lab-focused position ideal for someone who enjoys working with hardware, tools, and real products.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Perform mechanical and electronic prototyping of development boards and complete systems
  • Assemble, modify, and rework hardware prototypes, including:
    • Cabling and wiring
    • Soldering of small SMD components (0402 and smaller)
    • Assembly of fixtures and test setups
    • Integration into enclosures and housings
  • Perform plastic machining operations (milling, cutting, drilling) for prototype parts.
  • Apply and rework silkscreen markings on enclosures and components.
  • Handle labeling and traceability of prototypes and test units.
  • Support preparation of samples for internal testing, customer demos, and certifications.
Hardware Investigation & Debug
  • Conduct first-level hardware investigations on prototypes and returned units.
  • Perform basic diagnostics and root cause analysis, including:
    • Power and boot issues
    • Connectivity (Ethernet, Wi‑Fi)
    • RF-related anomalies (basic checks)
  • Use standard lab equipment (multimeter, power supplies, basic measurement tools).
  • Clearly document findings, test results, and corrective actions.
  • Escalate complex issues to hardware or system engineering teams with clear technical input.
Lab Operations & Support
  • Maintain lab organization, tools, and test equipment.
  • Manage hardware inventory, samples, and consumables.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and tracking of prototypes.
  • Support engineers during validation campaigns and troubleshooting sessions.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of lab procedures and workflows.
Profile
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Relevant hands‑on experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Technical Background
  • Basic knowledge of electronics (PCBs, components, power supplies, connectivity).
  • Practical experience with prototyping tools:
    • Soldering (through-hole and SMD)
    • Wiring and cabling
    • Basic mechanical work
  • Familiarity with networking and wireless systems (Wi‑Fi fundamentals is a plus).
  • Ability to follow test procedures, documentation, and safety rules.
  • Comfortable working in a hardware lab environment.
Soft Skills

  • Strong organizational skills for lab and inventory management.
