Job summary

ProteinSimple is seeking an intern in Hardware Engineering to support the development of new products and automation solutions. This full-time summer internship requires students currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in mechanical engineering, physics, or bioengineering. Interns will engage with a dynamic team to enhance their engineering skills.

Job description

Pay and Internship Details

Pay Range: $19.20 - $26.40; Pay Rate: $25/hour. Internship is paid and full‑time during the summer months.

All interns are required to conclude the program by giving a formal presentation on their work. No relocation assistance or sponsorship is provided.

Position Summary

The Hardware Engineering team is part of the development team and continuously pushes out new products, instruments, consumable devices, and manufacturing automation solutions to generate growth and value for the company. You will work with a diverse, dynamic, curious, fun‑loving, and innovative team to brainstorm ideas and apply your engineering skills towards new products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Documentation using our product lifecycle management system.
  • Design, build, and test components in instruments, manufacturing automation, and consumable devices.
  • Data analysis and presentation of results, status, and conclusions.
  • Attending meetings to brainstorm and contribute ideas.
  • Attend meetings and seminars to understand different departmental functions and impact to business.
Program Requirements
  • Currently enrolled student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, physics, bioengineering, or an equivalent.
  • Completed at minimum the sophomore year of college.
  • Ability to work full‑time in person during the duration of the internship program.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Strong logical thinking and good problem‑solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent data analysis and presentation skills.
  • Ability to learn and act independently with good judgment of when to get help.
  • Experience with MS Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with programming languages (Python, Arduino, LabVIEW) is a bonus.
  • Familiarity with CAD (SolidWorks) is a bonus.
  • Familiarity with 3D printing techniques, soldering, and electronics is a bonus.
