Job summary

R.P. Lumber is seeking a Retail Manager for our Oconomowoc, WI location. This on-site leadership role runs the showroom, coachs a team, and ensures accurate inventory while delivering service valued by contractors and homeowners.

The role reports to the General Manager and involves developing showroom, yard, and back-office operations, including staff coaching, scheduling, and performance tracking to support store goals.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of supervisory or retail management experience in hardware, lumber, building materials, home improvement, contractor sales, or related field.
• Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills with ability to work with limited supervision.
• Working knowledge of retail operations, merchandising, inventory control, customer service, and loss prevention.
• Comfort using a POS system and other retail software; estimating software experience is a plus.
• Ability to read sales, margin, inventory, and labor numbers to make store decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead by example at the sales counter, showroom, and register.
• Train and motivate staff to provide knowledgeable customer service.
• Resolve customer concerns quickly and fairly; build contractor and retail relationships.
• Oversee receiving, stocking, pricing, and product presentation in the showroom.
• Manage inventory accuracy and shrinkage; support labor scheduling and payroll tasks.
• Coach associates and contribute to store meetings on performance and safety.
