Job summary

KBR is seeking an experienced Harbor Pilot for Diego Garcia Harbor. The role requires piloting, docking, and coordinating vessel movements, serving as a liaison between military and civilian stakeholders.

A minimum of three years as an Unlimited Tonnage Harbor and Docking Pilot or Chief Harbor Pilot is required. The position involves leading docking operations, navigating challenging waters, and coordinating naval and civilian deployments to ensure mission-critical support.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must possess Special Background Investigation (SBI), secret clearance.
• Retired U.S. Navy (E-7 or above) preferred.
• Demonstrated leadership and management capabilities.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and coordinate the Daily Harbor Schedule for review by Port Operations.
• Pilot Navy/MSC/civilian vessels of all classes into Diego Garcia Harbor.
• Operate in all weather and light conditions.
• Direct tugboats and support craft during docking, unmooring, and anchoring.
• Consult nautical charts, tide tables, weather, and navigation systems for safe movements.
• Set vessel courses using local water knowledge and navigational hazards.
• Advise ship Masters on harbor rules and safety procedures.
• Supervise docking, berthing, and mooring activities.
• Liaise with Diego Garcia facilities, Commander Squadron Two, MSC, and tenant commands.
• Coordinate harbor movements to ensure uninterrupted mission support.
• Act as Docking Master for mooring plans at Deep Draft Wharf and POL Pier.
• Determine proper placement of fenders and mooring configurations.
