Job summary

AppLab Systems, Inc is seeking a hands-on Product Development (Prototyping) Engineer for Softgoods Design & Manufacturing in Boulder, CO. You will translate CAD data and tech packs into functional softgoods prototypes, validate fit and manufacturability, and support early production line activities with a collaborative design team.

The role emphasizes hands-on fabrication, use of industrial sewing equipment, and rapid iteration of prototypes to inform design robustness and tooling needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or industrial design is required.
• 14 years of experience in softgoods prototyping, fabrication, or sample development is required.
• Proficiency in industrial sewing and softgoods construction techniques.
• Ability to read technical drawings, patterns, and tech packs.
• Designer or maker with hands-on fabrication experience.
• Knowledge of softgoods materials (textiles, films, leather, adhesives).
• Strong manual skills and ability to operate fabrication machinery.
• Team-oriented with willingness to contribute beyond defined responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Prototype engineering and build execution for POC prototypes.
• Fabricate softgoods prototypes using sewing, cutting, bonding, and assembly techniques.
• Define and refine prototype processes for small build quantities.
• Iterate rapidly based on design and engineering feedback.
• Modify existing samples based on feedback.
• Support Lead DE in fabrication tasks and prepare materials for prototypes.
