Job summary

AnimalBiome, an Oakland-based biotechnology company focused on microbiome science for companion animals, seeks an entry-level Next Generation Probiotic Development Lab Assistant. You will support manufacturing and testing in the probiotic production lab, performing capsule filling, media prep, sample handling, and routine microbiological methods.

This role provides hands-on experience in probiotic development, microbiology, and biotech manufacturing.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree with interest in animal health or microbiology.
• Relevant laboratory, biotechnology, manufacturing, veterinary, or animal-health experience.
• Interest in companion-animal health, microbiome science, probiotics, or biotechnology.

Responsibilities

• Perform probiotic production tasks, including ingredient preparation, mixing, capsule filling, labeling, and packaging.
• Follow standard operating procedures and maintain a clean, organized laboratory environment in accordance with safety and contamination-prevention requirements.
• Prepare microbiological media, buffers, reagents, and other laboratory materials in accordance with established procedures.
• Support routine microbiology activities, sample handling, and culture maintenance.
• Conduct routine quality-control and stability assessments of probiotic materials under established procedures.
• Support the maintenance, inventory, and quality control of AnimalBiome’s proprietary microbial culture collection.
• Operate laboratory and production equipment after completing required training.
• Accurately document laboratory procedures, observations, results, material usage, and equipment activity using established templates and data management systems.
• Adhere to laboratory safety requirements and consistently use appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Identify and promptly report deviations, safety concerns, contamination risks, equipment problems, or procedural issues to supervisors.
• Participate in team projects and process improvement initiatives.
• Assist with training on routine laboratory procedures as needed.
• Adapt to evolving workflows, procedures, and production priorities.
• Utilize laboratory software and digital tools for data entry, sample tracking, inventory, and documentation.
