Job summary

BiomeSense in Chicago, IL is seeking a Technical Operations Engineer to oversee the day-to-day upkeep of our pilot GutLab fleet and ensure experiments run smoothly from inspection to redeployment. You will work with the Laboratory team on hardware, firmware, and electromechanical systems, while supporting development and manufacturing as we scale production.

This hands-on role is ideal for engineers who thrive in startups, enjoy troubleshooting, and want to help push life sciences hardware

Qualifications

BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.
Strong understanding of electro-mechanical devices and interactions.
Hands-on work with cutting-edge life sciences technology.
Excellent troubleshooting skills and creative problem solving.
Highly organized, proactive, independent with great attention to detail and communication.
Thrives in a startup environment; adaptable and eager to tackle new challenges.

Responsibilities

Hardware maintenance and changes on GutLab units: mechanical, electrical, and firmware.
Sustaining engineering to keep units functional and deployment-ready.
Coordinate operations: prepare GutLab hardware for deployments and support daily needs.
Quality system work: log failures, analyze root causes, and track fixes.
Support next-gen hardware builds from design through assembly with senior engineers.
Contribute to mechanical design problems for performance gains.
