Job summary

Horizon Goodwill in Hagerstown, MD seeks an Assistant Grocery Store Manager to partner with the Store Manager, lead shift teams, and drive departments from Produce to Front End while maintaining safety and profitability.

You will actively participate on the floor, mentor department leads, oversee onboarding, scheduling, inventory, and compliance with health and safety standards. Requires 3+ years in grocery mgmt and a Food Safety Manager certification or willingness to obtain it.

Qualifications

• Three (3) + years’ retail or grocery management, with a proven track record of leading teams and managing multiple departments.
• Must be 18 years or older (required for tobacco/lottery sales in this jurisdiction).
• Reliability: punctuality is essential for opening and daily operations.
• Food Safety Manager certification or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of all departments, ensuring safety, cleanliness and profitability.
• Schedule and manage labor to optimize coverage during peak periods.
• Monitor inventory and shrink; ensure lean yet sufficient stock flow.
• Mentor Department Leads and associates; provide real-time coaching on the floor.
• Ensure compliance with Maryland Health Department and store policies.
