Job summary

Sacoma Specialty Products is seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer with experience in metal fabrication and welding environments. This role works on the manufacturing floor to improve fabrication processes, troubleshoot equipment, support tooling and mechanical improvements, and identify opportunities to enhance safety, quality, efficiency, and cost.

This position offers close interaction with engineering, production, maintenance, and leadership, and requires staying hands-on with equipment

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent with mechanical knowledge.
• Proficient reading of blueprints, schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Experience in fabrication environment (1–3 years).
• Experience troubleshooting and maintaining heavy industrial equipment.
• Knowledge of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs applying knowledge of design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials.
• Develop manufacturing processes by designing, modifying, and testing methods and equipment.
• Improve efficiency by analyzing workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
• Assist production with programming and adjusting robotic MIG welders and resistance welders.
• Ensure product and process quality by designing testing methods and establishing standards.
• Calculate production, labor, and material costs and review schedules.
• Prepare product and process reports by collecting and analyzing data.
• Investigate current technologies and implement mechanical improvements for reliability.
• Implement improvements to production equipment while maintaining specs.
• Perform hands-on improvements to equipment ~70% of the time.
• Research and cost improvement opportunities ~25% of the time.
• Handle clerical duties including purchase orders and timelines ~5%.
