Job summary

Itron is seeking a part-time Electrical Engineer Intern to join our San Jose lab, working on-site with experienced engineers to support testing, development, and lab buildout. This hands-on role involves assembling equipment, routing cables, and building test fixtures while applying electrical and software skills.

The intern will use Python for automation, analyze data, and contribute to safety-compliant lab operations in a dynamic utility-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited electrical/computer engineering or related degree program with at least two years of coursework completed.
• Hands-on use of common hand tools and/or power tools in lab or project contexts.
• Ability to perform hands-on lab buildout, assembly, and test setup activities.
• Ability to program in Python and read/modify existing code.

Responsibilities

• Identify and troubleshoot issues across lab networks, equipment, and test setups.
• Set up and execute engineering tests, verify data quality, and generate reports.
• Collaborate with senior engineers on projects, prototypes, and process improvements.
• Build out and maintain a new engineering lab, including equipment assembly and cable routing.
• Develop Python-based automation tools for test execution and data processing.
