Job summary

Itron is seeking a part-time Electrical Engineer Intern to support its lab team on site in San Jose, California. You will help build, organize, maintain, and improve the lab while supporting engineering testing and development activities.

The role emphasizes hands-on work with tools, assembly, and test fixture development, along with Python-based automation and data reporting. Collaboration with senior engineers is expected.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited EE/CE/CS degree program with at least two years of coursework completed.
• Hands-on experience using common hand tools and/or power tools.
• Comfort performing physical, hands-on lab work in a new environment.
• Ability to safely use drills, drivers, crimpers, wire strippers, soldering equipment, and measurement tools.
• Ability to program in Python and read, troubleshoot, and modify existing code.

Responsibilities

• Identify and troubleshoot issues across lab networks, devices, and test equipment.
• Set up and execute engineering tests, verify data quality, analyze results, and report findings.
• Collaborate with senior engineers on projects, prototypes, investigations, and process improvements.
• Help build out and maintain a new engineering laboratory, including assembling equipment and routing cables.
• Build, install, and modify test fixtures, cable assemblies, and lab equipment.
• Perform hands-on mechanical and electrical assembly work to support lab infrastructure.
