Job summary

Itron, Inc. is seeking a Part-time Electrical Engineer Intern to join our San Jose lab. You will support hands-on lab activities, build and maintain test setups, and collaborate with senior engineers on projects across RF networks and smart-city testing.

The role involves practical mechanical and electrical assembly, tool usage, and developing Python-based automation for data processing and reporting. On-site during Fall/Winter, 10–20 hours/week, in a lab environment.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or related program with ≥2 years completed.
• Hands-on experience with hand tools and power tools in lab or project settings.
• Comfort with physical, hands-on lab work including assembly and test setups.
• Ability to program in Python and read/modify code.
• Familiarity with RF systems, electronics, embedded systems, and data acquisition.
• Safe tool usage and adherence to lab safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Identify and troubleshoot lab issues across equipment, networks, and test setups.
• Set up and run engineering tests, verify data quality, and document results.
• Collaborate with senior engineers on prototypes, investigations, and process improvements.
• Build, organize, and maintain the new engineering laboratory and test fixtures.
• Perform hands-on mechanical and electrical assembly work as needed.
• Develop Python-based automation tools for test execution and data processing.
• Document changes and maintain traceability using source control practices.
• Communicate progress, risks, and test evidence clearly and professionally.
