Job summary

Itron, Inc. is seeking an Electrical Engineer Intern to join our Raleigh lab on-site. You will support lab operations, develop automation in Python, and work with experienced engineers to improve test efficiency and documentation.

The role emphasizes safe handling of electrical equipment, data-driven testing, and collaboration across the lab team. Applicants should be pursuing an electrical/computer engineering or related degree and be available for ~40 hours per week in the summer.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in accredited electrical/computer engineering or related degree with ≥2 years completed.
• Ability to program in Python and read/modify existing code.
• Fundamental software development practices and documentation.
• Experience using AI coding assistants with careful human validation.
• Ability to translate tasks into clear requirements and test criteria.
• Experience maintaining or calibrating lab equipment.
• Interest in safety around energized/high-voltage systems.
• On-site availability ~40 hours/week in Raleigh, NC.

Responsibilities

• Identify and debug issues across lab equipment, RF networks, and test setups.
• Set up and run tests, verify data quality, analyze results, and report findings.
• Collaborate with senior lab engineers on Raleigh projects and improvements.
• Develop Python-based automation tools for tests, data processing, and reporting.
• Review AI-generated code for correctness, security, and maintainability.
• Use source control and issue-tracking to document changes and traceability.
• Maintain lab equipment, calibration records, and safe operation practices.
