Job summary

Diabetes Research Institute Foundation in Miami, FL seeks a hands-on Controller / Director of Finance to oversee accounting operations, ensure GAAP compliance, and provide strategic financial leadership for a mission-driven nonprofit.

Reporting to the COO, the role manages daily accounting, prepares financial statements, supports budgets and cash management, and leads audits and grant accounting while strengthening internal controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting or financial management experience.
• 3–5+ years of direct nonprofit accounting experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily accounting operations and general ledger activity.
• Prepare accurate financial statements and maintain GAAP-compliant records.
• Lead month-end close, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Coordinate with auditors and manage annual audit process.
• Support budgeting, cash management, and grant accounting.
