Job summary

E&K Building Excellence is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead accounting operations and financial reporting for our growing construction business in Irvine, CA. You will partner with the Business Unit President, manage day-to-day accounting, and develop a team to drive performance.

The role combines strategic oversight with active involvement in daily operations, backed by a larger Shared Services organization. A CPA and Spanish skills are a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5+ years of construction accounting experience with companies in excess of $50MM in annual revenue.
• Leadership experience managing and developing a team.
• Strong understanding of construction accounting, job costing, billing, payroll, and financial reporting.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems (Penta preferred; Plexxis, ViewPoint and similar ERPs OK).
• CPA and bilingual Spanish skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Partner with the Business Unit President and leadership team to support business strategy and decision-making.
• Lead monthly close, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, GAAP, and applicable regulations.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, collections, payroll accounting, and local banking activities.
• Manage job costing, contract billings, change orders, revenue recognition, and project financial reporting.
• Monitor cash flow, project profitability, and financial performance.
• Maintain effective internal controls and identify opportunities for process improvement.
• Lead, coach, and develop accounting team members.
• Partner with Shared Services and operations teams to improve reporting, systems, and business processes.
• Support organizational growth and change initiatives.
