Construction Controller: Build Internal Accounting Team

Job summary

RIMEPRO INC is seeking a hands-on Controller to bring its accounting function in-house and build a scalable internal accounting department focused on construction projects in Anaheim, CA.

The ideal candidate will lead the transition from outsourced to internal services, establish processes, and drive profitability insights across job costing, WIP, and project financials for ongoing construction programs.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with construction accounting experience strongly preferred.
• Prior Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or senior-level construction accounting experience.
• Strong understanding of WIP, job costing, percentage-of-completion accounting, and project financials.
• Experience analyzing project profitability, cost-to-complete, underbillings/overbillings, and budget-to-actual performance.
• Proven ability to build, lead, and develop an accounting team.
• Experience establishing accounting processes and systems within a growing organization.
• Strong understanding of general ledger, financial statements, AP/AR, and month-end close.
• Experience working directly with Project Managers and operational teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the transition from an outsourced accounting function to an internal accounting department.
• Build, hire, and develop the accounting team as the company grows.
• Establish and improve accounting processes, procedures, internal controls, and reporting systems.
• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and month-end close.
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements, reconciliations, and management reports.
• Manage and participate in WIP reporting, job costing, and project financial analysis.
• Monitor project budgets, actual costs, committed costs, billings, revenue recognition, and projected profitability.
• Work closely with Project Managers to identify cost variances, potential overruns, and changes in projected project margins.
• Review job cost reports and provide financial insight to company leadership and project teams.
• Assist with forecasting and financial planning for active construction projects.
• Monitor change orders, retainage, billing, collections, and project cash flow.
• Ensure accurate accounting for construction contracts and project-related transactions.
• Coordinate with external CPA firms, auditors, banks, insurance providers, and other financial partners as needed.
• Provide financial reporting and analysis to company ownership and senior leadership.
• Develop the accounting infrastructure and reporting processes needed to support continued company growth.
