Job summary

Voyager Technologies in Penrose, CO and Pueblo, CO seeks an Automation and Controls Technician to install, wire, test, and maintain PLC-based control systems and robotic work cells across energetic manufacturing operations. You’ll work under senior engineers with a clear growth path toward greater autonomy and technical ownership.

The role involves field wiring, cabinet assembly, troubleshooting, and documentation while complying with NFPA 70E, LOTO, and site safety requirements in a high-hazard

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate degree preferred or 1–3 years experience in lieu of degree.
  • Basic mechanical and electrical aptitude with tools and test equipment.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams; follow instructions accurately.
  • Safety-focused with LOTO, arc flash knowledge and OSHA electrical safety basics.
  • Detail-oriented with documentation skills (Word/Excel/ERP).
  • Strong teamwork and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must complete DoD Explosives Safety training within 30 days of employment.
  • Eligible to obtain state/federal explosives licenses; 21+; pass background checks.

Responsibilities

  • Assist installation, wiring, and commissioning of PLC-based control systems across multiple platforms and robots.
  • Build/wire electrical cabinets; run field wiring in NEC/UL508A compliant environments, including hazardous areas.
  • Troubleshoot faults with meters/diagnostic tools; support root-cause analysis under supervision.
  • Assist with plant networking for sensors, valves, PLCs, and control-room systems.
  • Perform routine/preventive maintenance and calibration; assist in commissioning/new installations.
  • Maintain documentation including as-built schematics and maintenance logs.
  • Adhere to LOTO, NFPA 70E, and site safety protocols; ensure arc-flash boundary compliance.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Safety, and Compliance teams; report issues promptly.
  • Support energetics production systems for mixing/dispensing and processing equipment.
  • Assist during energetics campaigns to minimize downtime and maintain safety.
